We are seeking a dedicated Lab Technician to join our Science Department. The successful candidate will play a key role in supporting teaching and learning by preparing and maintaining laboratory equipment, materials, and resources for practical lessons. This position is essential to ensure the safe and efficient operation of science labs, assist with lesson preparation, and provide technical support during experiments. The role also includes maintaining health and safety standards, managing stock and inventory, and supporting teachers and students to create an engaging, hands-on learning environment.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Provide technical support to staff and students, including preparation and maintenance of lab resources and equipment.
- Prepare, set up, and clear away all materials and equipment needed for science lessons.
- Support teachers with demonstrations, experiments, and practical lessons in Physics, Chemistry, and Biology.
- Assist in the trial of core practicals and help ensure lessons run smoothly.
- Manage stock levels, order consumables, and maintain accurate inventory records.
- Ensure safe storage, handling, and disposal of chemicals, radioactive sources, and other materials.
- Conduct routine checks on labs, equipment, and safety systems; report faults and arrange repairs.
- Maintain cleanliness and organization of prep rooms and laboratories.
- Comply with and promote health & safety regulations, including risk assessments and safe working practices.
- Advise staff on safety concerns and remove unsafe equipment from use.
- Cooperate with the Head of Science on health, safety, and safeguarding matters.
- Undertake relevant training to remain up to date with health & safety standards.
THE IDEAL CANDIDATE WILL HAVE:
- A minimum of 3+ years' experience with pupils in Upper Primary and Secondary years (Year 5- 13)
- Confidence with use of ICT in teaching
- Fluency in English at an academic standard
- Experience teaching Key Stage 2 to 3 age children in the UK curriculum framework
- Knowledge and understanding of theory and practice for meeting the learning needs of the students
