The Maintenance Technician carries out maintenance and repair work to electrical or/and mechanical installations or equipment (such as production machinery, rotating equipment, electrical installations, transport systems, buildings, facilities and constructions), so that technical assignments are carried out on time, safely and according to specifications in order to support the optimal running of production

The Maintenance Technician operates within a production / technical department, with a focus on execution of preventive and corrective maintenance. The main purpose of the job of a Maintenance Technician is to prevent any malfunction of the equipment, apparatus, machinery or systems that are used in the production process.

The Maintenance Technician may also support other facilities than production, such as R&D laboratories, office facilities as well as technical buildings (utilities) and systems for logistics and storage. The job takes care of any trouble shooting in order to keep to production process running, and carries out tasks to prevent future disturbances.

The job may be limited to one single technical discipline (such as construction, mechanical, rotating, electrical), or may be more skilled so that apart from one major technical discipline, the Maintenance Technician is able to deal with issues in related technical areas. Depending on the size of the facility, the number of Maintenance Technicians may vary in technical disciplines and expertise levels.

At the highest job level, the "all round" Maintenance Technician is capable of dealing with any of the issues that might occur, troubleshooting and solving technical issues in an expert role.

Job Description:
Inspections and preventive / planned maintenance:

• Checks and assesses the condition of handling equipment, pneumatic and/or mechanical/electrical, reception and silo installations, grinding, mixing and pressing lines, bag filling, feed and / or fertilizer, bulk loading and weighbridges, on the basis of maintenance schedules / checklists
• Restores (imminent) defects and performs corrective maintenance activities arising from inspections (according to schedule)
• Signals to the superior (potential) flaws with details of the nature and severity, proposes solutions to avoid (future or recurring) problems with the fun tioning of (parts) of equipment / machinery / transport systems.
• Orders / polls spare parts and materials for maintenance
• Works on planned maintenance activities of more extensive and / or complex nature (i.e. during maintenance stops), and may supervise technicians of third parties.

Malfunctions and defects / repairs:

• Troubleshoots malfunctions and defect in equipment, machinery, measuring and control systems and other parts of the installation
• Assesses the nature and extent of the problem and determines whether instantly repair is necessary or possible, assesses any fault causes and potential solutions
• Performs emergency repairs, disassembles (parts of) equipment / machinery and makes necessary repairs / changes to the equipment, if necessary in consultation with the supervisor
• Performs more extensive repairs at scheduled times and based on prepared planning and instructions (disassembly / assembly, parts replacement, set / adjust parts)
• Works with colleagues at jobs of more extensive and / or complex nature. May supervise technicians of third parties.

Modifications and improvements:

• Carries out modifications and overhaul work based on work orders and / or instructions from supervisor
• Proposals improvements in equipment, machinery and other areas based on expertise and experience in maintenance
• Consults with management on quality issues, technical issues / problems, etc.
• Orders to (re) making certain components from drawings
• May performs various techniques (welding, lathe and plate work, machining)

Reporting:

• Logs all maintenance activities in the appropriate maintenance management systems in order to have a complete administration and insight in the state and history of all equipment, files all technical data

Compliance:

• Works in compliance with all relevant safety regulations and procedures (work permits, LoTo, etc.), as well as technical standards
• Signals potential hazardous and / or unsafe situations, takes appropriate action is case of imminent unsafe situations

Position summary:

Executing preventive & corrective maintenance for machines & performing troubleshooting for production equipment breakdowns. In addition to supporting projects installation & start up.

Job Specific technical/Functional/Professional Competencies:

• Assess equipment to determine issues and ensure that appropriate engineering SOPs &manufacturing manuals are followed to manage problems for (SDF, Packaging and Semi-Solid) in Production Area
• Repair systems by first isolating complex problems and then determining ways to troubleshoot them.
• Perform both preventative and regular maintenance work on assigned mechanical systems to ensure that they work efficiently and to minimize chances of breakdown and downtime
• Install or / and repair components required to run production equipment properly to ensure minimum downtime
• Assist machine operators in understanding machine functions and procedures to ensure that they can perform their work efficiently
• Create reports on machine malfunctions and ensure that they are timely submitted to supervisors
• Oversee inventory of required components (Spare parts), parts and supplies for repairing and maintaining production equipment
• Ascertain work compliances to standards, tolerances, and fits, and ensure that all practices are coordinated with sound engineering standards and SOPs.
• Test equipment for proper operations and install new or reconditioned parts

• Test and recheck all repairs to ensure that they are in accordance with factory specifications and SOPs.

• Demonstrate knowledge in GMP, environmental, health and safety procedures to assure regulatory, policies and/or guidelines compliance.

Experience and Knowledge

• Minimum 5 years' experience in mechanical maintenance or electrical maintenance
• High school diploma or equivalent
• Previous experience in the Pharmaceutical Industry (preferred) or FMCG

Preferred Qualification:

• Relevant mechanical technician certifications (preferred)

About This Role

The role will be responsible for maintaining, repairing, and installing mechanical systems and equipment, ensuring their optimal and safe operation

Key Responsibilities

• Work in a team to provide maintenance support to the process plant and mine;
• Provide maintenance support for process equipment including crushers, screens, conveyors, pumps, grinding mills, gravity concentrators, hydro cyclones, flotation cells and pressure filters to maintain optimum performance;
• Monitor equipment condition and escalating issues to prevent further deterioration;
• Diagnose, overhaul, repair, and maintain conveyors, Mobile, Jaw and Cone crushers
• Carry out major mechanical overhauls, refurbishments and repairs to equipment in line with AGBL maintenance procedures and specifications
• Carry out routine maintenance, e.g. greasing/lubrication
• Carry out repairs and/or modifications to the plant components, including potential small fabrication work.
• Reading and understanding blueprints prior to starting a project.
• Measure and cut materials to specifications.
• Check finished work to make sure that it falls within the tolerances marked on the blueprints
• Repair and design of chutes, pipes, tanks, structures, and launders.
• Ensure that all parts are properly fitted, aligned, and screwed in.
• Adhere to assembly safety standards

Education, Work Experience & Key Competencies

• Minimum of Mechanical Engineering Technician (MET I) Certificate or Advanced welding and metals fabrication or relevant trade certificate from a recognized institution.
• Minimum of three (3) years post-qualification work experience as a Mechanic or boilermaker in a processing plant;
• Problem solving and decision-making skills.
• Dynamic knowledge and understanding of process plant operating & metallurgical practices.
• Excellent verbal and written English communication skills.
