**Brief Job Description**:
**MAIN DUTIES**
- Provide technician support for the Science Department.
- Oversee the Health and Safety of all lessons and activities in the science department.
- Be responsible for the inventory of all equipment and chemicals in
**Lesson Support**
- Liaise with teaching staff to develop new practical ideas and advice on schemes of work.
- Develop new systems in the laboratories and prep rooms to improve the technical support service.
- Prepare apparatus for lessons in advance and ensure that the teacher is made aware of limitations relating to resources.
**Ordering and Maintenance of chemicals and practical equipment**
- Create and maintain an up to date chemical and equipment database.
- Ensure a thorough stock control and order system and keep track of chemicals based on current schemes of work.
- Manage the inventory and account for losses to ensure resources and equipment is replaced when it is broken or wasted.
- Coordinate the ordering and purchasing of all science supplies and specialist equipment in collaboration with science teachers.
- Making resources including construction and modification of apparatus as required for demonstration and class experiments, models and class displays or liaising with other site staff to do so.
- Maintain required records and logs (inventory system) of all maintenance and servicing of science equipment & facilities.
- Carry out in-house repairs, calibration and maintenance and source contractors for external repairs of specialist equipment.
- Check deliveries items as necessary.
**Preparation of lesson equipment**
- Set up or prepare apparatus, materials, samples and chemicals as requested by science teachers.
- Ensure a supply of commonly used chemicals and accurate concentrations of solutions are always in stock.
- Take care of animals and specimens for observational and experimental purposes.
**Health and Safety**
- Ensure storage of chemicals and equipment is appropriate and compliant with CLEAPPS and local legislation.
- Be aware of and take steps to address potential hazards relating to chemicals or equipment to be used in lessons.
- Retrieve and clear away apparatus/chemicals daily ensuring the safety of cleaning staff.
- Keep the laboratories and the prep room clean and organized.
- Disposal of hazardous waste and laboratory materials including chemicals, micro biological waste, animal waste in accordance with Health and Safety guidelines (CLEAPPS and local legislation).
- Disseminate and implement all appropriate Health and Safety legislation and guidance with respect to science education using both UK CLEAPPS guidelines and local legislation.
- Ensure the labs and the prep room are secure when not in use.
- Ensure statutory safety regulations and safe practice is complied with, relating to technician skills qualifications, and student involvement in the labs, classrooms and workshops.
- Maintain lab documentation systems including organization of work sheets, filing, hazard data, legal records and risk assessments.
