Job Purpose:
The Distribution Manager is responsible for the entire outbound logistics operation, from the central warehouse to the end customer (hospitals, pharmacies, distributors). This role ensures the efficient, cost-effective, and fully compliant storage, transportation, and distribution of pharmaceutical products in accordance with Good Distribution Practices (GDP), Egyptian Drug Authority (EDA) regulations, and company quality standards. The manager is the guardian of product integrity throughout the supply chain.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Logistics & Distribution Operations Management:
- Plan, direct, and manage all daily activities of the distribution department, including order processing, picking, packing, loading, and routing.
- Develop and implement efficient distribution strategies to optimize delivery routes, reduce transportation costs, and improve on-time delivery performance.
- Manage the fleet of vehicles (owned or contracted), ensuring they are properly maintained, equipped, and suitable for pharmaceutical transport (e.g., refrigerated trucks for cold chain products).
- Oversee the order-to-cash process for the logistics function, ensuring accurate and timely invoicing and supporting the collections process for logistics-related charges.
2. Warehouse & Inventory Management Coordination:
- Work closely with the Warehouse Manager to ensure seamless integration between warehouse and distribution activities.
- Monitor inventory levels at hub locations to prevent stock-outs that could impact delivery schedules.
- Oversee the reverse logistics process, including the management of product returns, recalls, and damaged goods in full compliance with protocols.
3. Third-Party Logistics (3PL) & Carrier Management:
- Select, evaluate, and manage relationships with third-party logistics providers (3PL), transportation companies, and couriers.
- Negotiate contracts and service level agreements (SLAs) to ensure cost-effective and reliable services.
- Conduct regular performance reviews of 3PL partners against KPIs (on-time delivery, damage rates, compliance).
4. Compliance, Quality & Safety:
- Ensure strict adherence to Good Distribution Practices (GDP)
and all EDA regulations governing the storage and transportation of pharmaceuticals. - Implement and maintain a robust cold chain management system
for temperature-sensitive products, including temperature monitoring and validation. - Ensure all distribution activities meet ISO and other international quality standards as required.
- Guarantee all necessary documentation (waybills, GDP certificates, temperature logs) is accurately completed and retained.
- Champion a culture of safety within the distribution center, ensuring compliance with health and safety regulations.
5. Team Leadership & Development:
- Lead, mentor, and develop a team of supervisors, fleet coordinators, and drivers.
- Set clear performance goals, conduct regular performance reviews, and identify training needs, particularly on GDP and safety procedures.
- Foster a culture of continuous improvement, accountability, and operational excellence.
6. Reporting & Technology:
- Utilize the Warehouse Management System (WMS) and Transportation Management System (TMS) to track shipments, manage resources, and generate performance reports.
- Analyze distribution data and KPIs (e.g., delivery accuracy, cost per delivery, vehicle utilization) to identify trends and areas for improvement.
- Provide regular reports on distribution performance to senior management.
Qualifications and Experience:
- Bachelor's degree
in Supply Chain Management, Logistics, Business Administration, or a related field. A degree in
Pharmacy is a significant advantage. - Minimum of 8-10 years
of experience in logistics and distribution management, with
at least 5 years in a managerial role within the pharmaceutical, FMCG, or medical devices industries. - In-depth, proven knowledge of GDP standards
and Egyptian Drug Authority (EDA) regulations for distribution is
mandatory. - Hands-on experience with cold chain logistics
is essential. - Proven experience in managing third-party logistics (3PL) providers and negotiations.
